BEE STINGS/BUG BITES

Spring and Summer are the seasons where we see many bug bites and bee stings on pets. Just like people, some pets are more sensitive to stings and bites than others. If you notice any large swelling at the site, and your pet is having difficulty breathing, acting lethargic, vomiting, and/or any other unusual behavior, we recommend coming in for an examination as soon as possible.
If your pet just got stung, and you are concerned, you may give him Benadryl (Chlorpheniramine) to help his body cope with the sting. Benadryl is an antihistamine that people take to control allergic reactions. Typically, Benadryl is given 1 mg per 1 pound of body weight. So a 25 pound dog can take one 25 mg tablet.
Again, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office.
